Description
While I was painting this piece, God had already placed a verse on my heart to inspire it:
"For what credit is it if, when you sin and are beaten for it, you endure? But if when you do good and suffer for it, you endure, this is a gracious thing in the sight of God. For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps. He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth. When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly. He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed." 1 Peter 2: 20- 24
We all have battle scars from different experiences in our lives, but what a privilege it is to be called to live according to Christ's example. Suffering in the name of the Lord is a blessing, and the gifts we receive (mercy, grace, compassion, wisdom, vision, joy, peace- to name a few) far outweigh anything we might lose in this transient world. Being willing to unapologetically follow Christ is such a small sacrifice considering all He endured for us- considering His battle scars. Moreover, we have the assurance that whatever we may face in upholding God's Word, God will guide us, comfort us, and ultimately use the experience in our lives (and in the lives of others) for good. Rather than buckling to the superficial trappings of this world (which we cannot keep anyway), we should instead stand firm in a love we cannot lose and be proud of those battle scars! You will be humbled and amazed someday when you see how God has used your life - your story- to advance His kingdom.
